How does paracetamol works

Paracetamol (acetaminophen) works primarily by reducing the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation. It acts on the brain’s hypothalamus to lower body temperature when you have a fever and is thought to block pain signals in the brain. However, unlike non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), paracetamol doesn’t significantly reduce inflammation.

Its effects generally include:

  1. Pain relief (analgesic): It helps relieve mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, muscle aches, and toothaches.
  2. Fever reduction (antipyretic): It helps reduce fever by acting on the heat-regulating center in the brain.

It is well-tolerated in recommended doses but can cause liver damage if taken in large quantities.
